A little bit about me: My name is Rob Harriman and I am very excited for my third year of teaching at Lyle (though it will be my tenth year of teaching second grade.
Let me briefly introduce myself. I am a long-time Oregonian, having graduated from Central High School in Independence. I attended the University of Oregon, where I received a BA in Journalism, and I later earned my teaching license from Western Oregon University. I have lived in a variety of locations in the Northwest, including Seattle and Portland, but I am always proud to call the Willamette Valley home. I currently live in Monmouth with my wife, my sixteen year old son and thirteen year old daughter. I am also a former political cartoonist, a fair to middling banjo player, and during the summer I have directed Apple Box Children's Theater in Monmouth.
goals for the year: As a teacher I am acutely aware of the impact we have on the lives of our students. As they enter school they are entrusted to us for more than six hours a day.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to maximize it. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively, and learning through play. It is my goal to create a community of learners who are committed to working hard and having fun. I want students to leave my classroom feeling confident that they can apply what they've learned in school to real-life situations, and to feel challenged and to have an enhanced passion for learning.
